I have had this problem with newer devices and found that the speaker and strobe circuits are swapped on a single device

did you re-import the RPM file? and if it were a problem with communication it would just come up with an error after hitting the lighting bolt and hardware update task failed

What I have found with sounder bases is that you have to wait sometimes up to 24 hours for the detectors/bases to properly program.

A cable shield problem would cause communication issues however a completly burned up fried 485 card means there is something wronge in the field.
